Building bridges

I grew up in rural as fuck Oklahoma, and when I say rural as fuck, please realize my graduation class in high school was twelve. Growing up on a farm, and having to walk 12 miles to the library in the town next to us to get internet, was my daily routine. From the age of 11 to 14 my parents had no cable, no internet, and no friends. Imagine having this great hunger inside in which you wish to learn all that you can about a certain subject, but being limited because of logistics in the geographical area you live in.

For 3 years I would go to the library and attempt to make friends there, but everyone was using the internet back in 2002 for just porn, and random things I couldn’t imagine. It was until I was 21 and living in Oklahoma City until I found the DC405, the DEFCON group dedicated, and made life long friends and practically changed my life.

Fast forward to 2020…..now you have places like The Undercroft, hackthebox, populated IRC channels, and soooo much more. Say if you live in bumb-fuck Ohio, and have nothing near you for 200 miles. You can join online hacker spaces and participate in the talks, hangout online, and even learn much more then what you could of years ago in this form.

This story is for that person who isn’t going on Facebook groups saying “teach me how to hack”, this is for the person who is wanting to find others like him/her. You can tell allot by a true hacker, by how they learn. They understand that it is a water faucet that never turns off, and they love that feeling.

I truly am happy for the younger generation that is just now starting to learn what hacking is all about, please check out the following links to help start your journey. My parting words are, don’t compare yourself to others, everyone has their own path.
